What to Expect

During your appointment I will spend time taking a full case history, asking you questions about your general health, medical history and lifestyle. I may take your pulses, look at your tongue and undertake a physical examination. There is plenty of time for you to ask questions too.

Based on my findings we will discuss and agree the most appropriate treatment for you. Each treatment is tailored to your specific needs and may include acupuncture, acupressure massage, tuina, cupping, moxibustion, magnet therapy, heat therapy, auricular acupuncture, electro acupuncture and acupressure taping.

Response to Treatment

Each person is unique and so response to treatment varies. Some people see a marked improvement straight away; others may need a few treatments before seeing improvement.

As a general rule recent or acute conditions may be resolved in as little as 2 or 3 treatments. More long standing conditions are likely to need more sessions before real change is seen. I usually recommend 1 treatment per week for 4 to 6 weeks, after which the sessions are spaced further apart.

The use of a holistic approach enables treatment of the whole person. My experience has shown that most people find further benefits above and beyond their initial reason for seeking treatment. The more common additional benefits are improved sleep, digestion or appetite; improved mental clarity; improved energy and improved sense of wellbeing.

Does it hurt?

I am frequently asked if acupuncture hurts. If you've experienced a conventional hypodermic needle recently this is a very sensible question to ask. However acupuncture needles are much finer meaning you often don't notice them, or at worst feel a very slight sensation as the needle goes through the skin. As the treatment progresses you may feel some heaviness, a low grade ache or tingling sensation.
